Today we fitted the ailerons to the repaired wings, the Stits polytone wing paint almost matches the Aerothane on the ailerons. The flatener would have worked perfectly if I had stopped with two coats , however I had just enough catalyed paint remaining for another coat, that made it just a little too slick and shinny.
Here is the top of the left wing.
Here you can see the difference between the Polytone and the Aerothane. The wings are ready for installation on the airplane. The struts are painted and the tail surfaces are completed. This week I will finish all the pre-assembly work on the Continental C-90 engine. Some of the painting has been completed. Here is a shot of the bolt on engine parts. They were cleaned, inspected, light glass bead, acid etch, alodine, and then Stits off white epoxy primer, then Randolph Continental Gold enamal paint. Lot of work but they look great and should not need attention until the next overhaul.
Here they are getting a baked finish, it was 105 in the shade today in Virginia.
